What’s up, everyone!
When I say everyone, I mean anyone…. who’s reading this. My name is Eric Thomas, but everyone just calls me ET, sometimes I honestly forget that my name is Eric.
Anyways, thanks for stopping by the new Hillside Drum Company website! This all got started as a DIY project. I sold my soul to percussion/drums 11 years ago, and have played on quite a few Cajon Drums. After almost half a year trying to find that desired sounding Cajon, and refusing to spend $300 on a wooden box, I decided to build a handmade Cajon.
Then a few friends wanted me to make them one…
So I did…
And now I’m making handmade cajons on a daily basis!
It’s funny how small businesses such as this seem to find their way into your life. But it’s been a blast so far and I learn something new about the instrument every time I make a new drum. It’s become an addicting hobby honestly. I get fascinated by how minor things such as the color of the finish, using a 16-strand set of snare wires instead of 20-strand, using more or less wood glue, etc. can make such a big impact on the sound quality. But each detail creates its own unique sound, which is what makes handmade cajons even more unique in its own.
Every Hillside Drum is 100% handmade and crafted to suit your playing styles and preferences. They are made in Bowling Green, KY., just off of WKU’s campus (Go Tops). As of right now, we are working to get our product sold in local music stores, as well as in the hands of performing artists. Stay tuned for announcements – it should be exciting to see where this goes!
